Group Coaching for Young Cricketers

Building Confidence, Mental Strength, and Resilience Through Cricket

Cricket performance is shaped as much by the mind as by physical skill. The same mental and emotional skills also influence confidence, learning, and personal growth beyond the game.

This group coaching programme supports young cricketers to build mental clarity, emotional resilience, and inner steadiness so they can perform with confidence under pressure and grow into balanced, self assured individuals off the field.

This coaching is not just about winning matches. It is about developing focus, emotional control, decision making, and resilience that support young people through sport, education, and life.

The programme is led by Amit Dhull, whose playing journey included opening the batting with Virender Sehwag and Chris Nevin, and facing international bowlers such as Ian O'Brien, Mark Gillespie, and Paul Jarvis.

These experiences provide firsthand understanding of pressure, competition, mistakes, and recovery, which directly inform how young players are supported mentally and emotionally through this programme.

Designed for cricketers aged 14 to 18, the programme offers a supportive and structured environment where young athletes can grow mentally, emotionally, and personally alongside others at a similar stage of their journey.

Why Mental and Emotional Resilience Matters

Young cricketers today face pressure from many directions. Competitive sport, academic expectations, self doubt, comparison, and fear of failure can quietly affect confidence, focus, and enjoyment of the game.

Without the right mental and emotional tools, these pressures often show up as:

  • Anxiety before matches or exams

  • Overthinking and loss of focus

  • Strong emotional reactions after mistakes

  • Reduced confidence and self belief

  • Difficulty balancing sport, study, and expectations

Group Cricket Coaching supports young cricketers to build resilience so they can respond to pressure with clarity, steadiness, and perspective rather than stress.

These skills support not only cricket performance, but also academic focus, exam preparation, communication, and confidence as young people prepare for the next stages of life.

What Your Child Will Gain

The This programme focuses on developing the inner skills that help young cricketers perform with confidence and grow into balanced, capable individuals. Your child will be supported to develop:

Mental clarity and focus: The ability to concentrate fully when batting or bowling, and to carry the same focus into study, revision, and exams.

Emotional resilience: Practical tools to manage pressure, setbacks, and expectations with greater calm and balance.

Confidence under pressure: A steadier inner state that supports performance in matches, classrooms, presentations, and everyday challenges.

Natural focus in cricket: Learning how to access a calm, absorbed state of attention where the mind is quieter and performance feels more fluid.

Life ready skills: Self awareness, emotional regulation, and mental strength that support growth well beyond sport.

Cricket is the Training Ground for Life

Cricket offers powerful lessons in patience, discipline, resilience, and presence. When guided intentionally, these lessons extend far beyond the pitch.

  • Through this programme, young players learn to:

  • Stay composed during exams and assessments

  • Handle academic pressure with greater clarity

  • Build confidence in communication and teamwork

  • Develop emotional maturity and responsibility

  • Carry inner steadiness into adult life

The skills developed here are transferable across sport, education, relationships, and future careers.

The Leadology Approach

This coaching is shaped by a combination of lived cricket experience and professional training, with a strong focus on supporting young people as whole individuals.

Amit Dhull brings together:

  • Competitive cricket experience from his early playing years

  • Formal education in psychology

  • Years of coaching individuals and groups

  • Training and experience as an Art of Living meditation and breathwork facilitator

This blend allows the coaching to be practical, relatable, and emotionally supportive, rather than purely technical or performance driven.

Sessions are designed to be age appropriate and engaging, helping young cricketers understand how their mind and emotions influence performance, confidence, and behaviour.

The approach integrates simple elements of psychology, mindfulness, breath awareness, and reflection in ways young people can easily apply in matches, at school, and in everyday situations.

How the Programme Works

This is a long term group coaching journey designed to support steady, sustainable growth rather than quick fixes.

The programme includes:

  • A 12 month programme to allow skills to develop and embed over time

  • One 60 minute session every fortnight

  • Small, supportive group sessions to encourage participation and trust

  • Guided discussions and practical exercises

  • Focus on mental training, emotional regulation, and concentration

The programme is suitable for young cricketers aged 14 to 18.

Sessions are conducted online, making it easier to fit alongside school commitments and cricket training schedules without adding extra travel or pressure.

A Supportive and Safe Group Environment

For many young people, confidence grows fastest when they realise they are not alone in their challenges.

This group coaching environment is designed to be calm, respectful, and supportive, allowing young cricketers to learn, reflect, and grow without fear of judgement.

The programme offers:

  • A safe and encouraging space where every participant is respected

  • Shared learning that helps normalise challenges and setbacks

  • Consistent guidance and gentle accountability

  • A calm group culture that supports focus and emotional balance

This environment supports personal growth, confidence, and performance development, both on and off the field.

This is a structured, long term coaching journey designed to support steady development rather than short term results.

Programme fee: NZ$2,400 for the full 12 month programme

The programme includes all fortnightly group coaching sessions across the year, providing consistent guidance, skill development, and mental and emotional support over time.
